Shamsuddin made a cameo appearance in this movie when he portrayed the character of Reecha. Reecha was a monster living just outside in the jungle. this is a story about a dying wealthy man, who has two sons, but leaves all his wealth and estate for one of his two sons. The other son then reverts to black magic and unleashes a curse to give rise to a beast. Shamsuddin played the monstrous beast, a paranormal giant who was so scary and dangerous looking in the movie. Shamsuddin’s character was vastly inspired by the horror movies of Hollywood like Halloween, the main villain in Halloween being Michael Myers who is another giant beast.
This movie went on to become a cult classic in Indian horror cinema. His next cult horror movie was Dak Bungla. One of India’s first ever A rated horror movies (A rating for only adults were allowed to watch the movie) because of it’s graphic depiction of horror and terror and gore and violence. The movie was based on a couple that move into a new house, which has a sinister past, with a mummy living in the basement of the house.
Shamsuddin portrayed the character of the Mummy, covered in white striped clothes and blood dripping out of him, this character again went on to create fear in the minds of the audience and Shamsuddin’s legacy continued to grow. Shamsuddin went on to star in many other cult classic films like Veerana, Shaitai Ilaqa and many more where he played the scary ghost. Throughout his career he stared in over 50 films and is one of the greatest Bollywood villains ever.
