Anil Chavda is an Indian poet, writer and columnist based in Gujrat, India. He was born on 10 May 1985 in Lakhtar, Karela, a village in Surendranagar district, Gujrat, India. His parents are Premajibhai and Manibahen. He finished his schooling in Karela prathmik Shala, Lakhtar in 1999. He completed his high school from Siddharth High School, Wadhwan in 2000 and his Higher secondary from Navsarjan Highschool Ahmedabad in 2002. He pursued Bachelor of Arts from H.K Arts College in Gujrati literature in 2005. After that he completed his Master’s degree from Saraspur Arts and Commerce College, Ahmedabad in 2005 and a Bachelor of Education degree from Chanakya Vidyalaya, Ahmedabad in 2008.
He then took a diploma course in journalism from Bhavan’s College, Ahmedabad in 2009. He married Ranjan on February 18th, 2011 and had a son named Arth. His journey in writing poetry started in his college years. His first publication was in 2004 which was a Ghazal published in the Gujrati Poetry Journal called Kavilok in 2024. Many of his writing then got published in famous Gujrati Literary Magazines such as Dhabak, Shabdasrishti, Kumar, Parivesh, Gazalvishw, Tadarthya, Parab, Navneet Samarpan, Shabdasar and many more.
By 2007 his Ghazals have appeared in the infamous compilation of ghazals by young Gujrati poets named ‘Vis Pancha.’ It included his works along with Bhavesh Bhatt Bhavesh Dilipbhai Bhatt, also known as Bhavesh Bha >> Read More... , Chandresh Makwana, and Hardwar Goswami. His first ghazal anthology ‘Savaar Laine’ was released on 15th February 2012, published by Navbhart Sahitya Mandir. Again in 2012, his short story collection called ‘Ek Hati Varata’ was released. According to the critics his poetic language includes frustration, sorrow and satire as the essential elements. His writing style is simple yet full of freshness that carries a natural rhythm.
Since 2014 he started working as an executive editor for the monthly Gujrati magazine ‘Sanvedana Samaj.’ His column ‘Manni Mosam’ was published regularly in the Indian Newspaper ‘Sandesh.’ He serves as the advisory board in the Ahmedabad International Literature Festival. Ashok Chavda has translated nineteen books in Gujrati. He has also worked with Gujarati Geet. In 2022, his second collection of Ghazals ‘Ghanu Badhu Che’ was published.
He was awarded the Shayda Award in 2010 by the Indian National Theatre-Mumbai and the Yuva Gaurav Puraskar by the Gujarat Sahitya Akademi. In 2012-2013 Ashok won Takhtasinh Parmar Prize from the Gujarati Sahitya Parishard and Yuva Puraskar for his book ‘Savaar laine’ in 2014 from Sahitya Akademi, Delhi. He also received the Ravji Patel Award by the Gujarat Samachar and Samanvay 2016. Some of his other contributions include- Sukh Dukh Mari Drashtie (2009), Shabda Sathe Maro Sanbandh (2012), Prem Vishe (2014), Aakash Vavanara (2013), and Aachare Te Aacharya (2013).
