Sitanshu Yashaschandra Mehta, also known as Sitanshu Yashaschandra, was a Gujarati poet born on August 19, 1941, at Bhuj. He completed his Bachelor's in Gujarati and Sanskrit from St. Xavier's College, Mumbai, and his Master's from the University of Bombay in 1965. He taught Gujarati from 1965 to 1968. In 1970, he pursued an MA in Aesthetics and Comparative Literature at Indiana University in the US under a Fulbright scholarship, completing his Ph.D. IN 1975.Â
Sitanshu Yashaschandra was the President of the Gujarat Sahitya Parishad. In 1987, he received the Sahitya Akademi Award from India's National Academy of Letters for his poetry collection 'Jatayu.' After that, in 2006, he was honored with the Padma Shri, one of the four highest civilian awards bestowed by the Government of India.
