Jyotirmoy Datta is a writer, poet, essayist, and journalist. He was born in 1936 in Bangladesh. He is married to Meenakshi Dutta, the daughter of a famous Bengali poet Buddhadev Bose. His mother was also a renowned writer and singer named Protibha Bose. Jyotirmoy’s childhood was not memorable, as he became a victim of the historic partition. Dutta traveled to various Universities abroad. He paid visits to The University of Chicago as a guest lecture and went to The University of Lowa. Dutta currently lives in New York City. There he works as an Editor for the South Asian Journal.
He achieved all this glory much later in his life, but his first step towards success was when he started working at The Statesman, Calcutta’s oldest ever English Newspaper. Jyotirmoy Datta is the father of two children. His son, Mallinath Dutta is a director and executive at an advertising agency; Mallinath directed the movie Full Masti. His daughter, Kankawati Dutta, is the editor of Personae magazine.Â
