Buddhadeva Bose, also called Buddhadeb Bosu, was an Indian Bengali writer, poet, and essayist from India. He was born in 1908 in Comilla, Bengal Presidency, British India (currently Bangladesh). Buddhadeva Bose started writing at a very early age. Buddhadeva Bose studied English literature at the University of Dhaka. Then, he did post-graduation in English and aced it with distinction marks. Buddhadeva Bose was well known for his poetry. However, he had also written various novels, short stories, plays, and essays. People often compare him with Rabindranath Tagore's literature.
Buddhadeva Bose married Pratibha Bose, who is an accomplished singer and writer. They had three children: Damayanti Basu Singh, Minakshi Datta, and Suddhashil Bose. He had edited the famous literary magazine named Progoti. At Jadavpur University, he established a Department of Comparative Literature and remained its faculty member for several years. Furthermore, he was a member of the Progressive Writers' Association and the Anti-Fascist Writers and Artists' Association.
His significant contribution to Bengali literature was the creation of Kavita, which is a poetry magazine in Bengali. He had written more than 40 novels and published more than 200 books. Some of his popular poetry artworks include Mormorani (1924), Bondir Bondona (1930), Prithibir Pothe (1933), Konkaboti (1937), Natun Pata (1940), Domoyonti (1943), Draupadi Sari (1948), Sreshto Kobita (1953), Shelter Prarthona: Bosonter Uttor (1955), Je Adhar Alor Odhik (1958), Morche Pora Pereker Gan (1966). His famous novel works are Shara (1930), Hormonnya (1931), Mono Deya Neya (1932), Jobonika Poton (1932), and Rhododendron Guccho (1932). Unfortunately, he died in 1974 in Kolkata, India.
