She graduated with an MA in History from the University of Dhaka. Tonima completed her SSC at Agrani Girls High School, Azimpur, Dhaka.
She started her acting career at the age of three or four. She started her career on stage with her first role in Bracket's 'Chalk Circle.' After that, she continued acting in Tagore's short story 'Mallodan' in 1992 when she was in 7th grade. In the meantime, she has performed in many more plays like 'Let There Be Light' on behalf of her team Natyachakra. In 1996, she participated in Jurinda and Konna Kumari.
She participated in Hoimonti in 1999, Shesher Kabita Noy, LALGOLA, Voddrnok, KONKAL and Dristi in 2001. Her last play was Sofor Alir Sukh Dukkho in 2021. Tonima Hamid has long associated with theater. The name of her theater group is Nattyachokro. She has been a member of this group for many years. She has participated in numerous plays with her group. She also works as a lecturer in the Department of Social Realities at East West College in the country's capital.
