Harisadhan Dasgupta was a renowned Indian-origin film director. In 1923, he was born in Kolkata. Dasgupta was always fascinated by the art of filmmaking, to learn the art more professionally, he went to the University of California, Los Angeles. He also worked part-time under the producer Irving Pichel. After completing his studies, Harisadhan returned to Calcutta to produce films and documentaries. In his long career, Harisadhan has produced several long and short documentaries. He was well known among the public for his English language documentaries about the situation of Bengali people.
Some of his most famous works are Panchthupi: A Village in West Bengal (1955), Panorama of West Bengal (1961), Glimpses of India (1965), and The Automobile Industry in India (1969). He gained popularity when he drafted a documentary on Tata Steel titled Tata: The Story of Steel.
