who is a photographer and filmmaker. His father is Soumilya who is a banker and his mother is Sangeet Datta who is a writer and house film director. Soumik finished his schooling at Harrow School, and he was trained by his grandfather Buddhadev Das Gupta. He graduated with MMus in Composition at Trinity Laben Conservatoire of Music and Dance, University College London in 2009. Soumik is the artistic director of the Soumik Datta Arts charity.
He is known for Brick Lane (2007), Life Goes On (2009), and Gangs of Tooting Broadway (2013). Soumik curated a festival of music and dance at the Horniman Museum, London in 2017. He performed at the Glastonbury Festival in June, 2019. His other albums are Fretless (2009), Circle of Sound (2012), Anti-Hero (2014), King of Ghosts (2019), Jangal (2019), and Silent Spaces (2021). He wrote, directed and scored “Songs of the Earth” animation won an award for a young climate refugee from Bengal searching for her father across burning forests, and melting glaciers.
