Varun Badola was born on 7 January 1974 in New Delhi. Though his home town is Uttarakhand, he spent his childhood in Ahemdabad. His father Vishwas Mohan Badola is a well known television artist and his sister Alka has acted in TV serials titled Kutumb and . His second sister Kalindi is a radio jockey. Varun Badola always wanted to be an actor. He studied at Sardar Patel Vidhyalaya in Delhi. He is also a good singer and dancer and has been part of many reality shows. He has also worked as a costume arranger and assistant director in his early days with Tigmanshu Dhuliya. He has written dialogues for his serials Ek Chabi Hai Pados Me and Astitva Ek Prem Kahani. All in all, he is a multitasker. For his dedicated performances he is also considered as and of Hindi television.

He is a cricket fan and has also been a part of team Mumbai Heroes. Recently he has directed some episodes of Nisha Aur Uske Cousins. His father, Varun Mohan Badola is also acting in this serial but he could not get chance to direct him. He played the role Thakur Vikram Singh in Zee TV's Serial Phir Kab Subah Hogi and was seen on in Jaya Bachchan's serial Vasundhara, which telecasted in Sony TV. His debut serial was , but he gained popularity through Koshish and Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand. In Balaji telefilm's serial Koshish, which aired on Zee TV he played the role of a mentally challenged person. In Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand, he played an extremely romantic character of Dev, which increased his female fan following. He is married to and the couple has participated in dance reality show Nach Baliye 2 and reached up to the semifinals.

He considers his father and as his godfathers and is thankful to them for teaching him acting and direction. These days he can be seen as charming lead actor Veer in Tumhari Pakhi on Life OK.
