Akkara Kazhchakal is a Malayalam sitcom that was broadcasted on Kairali TV. The serial was made by
Abi Varghese
and
Ajayan Venugopalan
. It was premiered on February 15, 2008 and ends in the year 2010. It comprises with fifty episodes which narrated the lives of Malayali family who lives in U.S.
The show is considered as the first real Malayalam sitcom that portrays real-life events and humorous dialogues with lesser artificial dramatic scenes. The serial was mostly shot at US and the houses used in the serial are the real houses of the creators of this serial.
The show is all about the life of the patriarch, George Thekkinmootil (played by
Josekutty Valiyakallumkal
). He is a striving insurance agent with a wife named Rincy (played by Sajini Sachariah). Rincy is a nurse who dreams of having a luxurious life. The two grew up in Kerala but they raised their kids, Matt (played by
Litto Joseph
) and Chakki Mol (played by
Priya Joseph
) in U.S. Rincy and their children already adapt American life. George is usually longing and sentimental about his native country. George is a very affectionate father and he usually tells his children how lucky they are to have a good life in America. George was stuck in a job that he doesn’t like and attempted to launch several businesses but failed. Until finally, he settled as an Insurance Agent and starts his own firm. Another episode traces Mahi (played by Hari Dev) and Babykuttan’s (played by Sanjeev Nair) lives. They both worked as a nurse who just moved to U.S. from India along with Krish (played by Jayan Mathew) and Baiju (played by

) who lives with Mahi and Babykuttan when they lose their job because of the IT recession.
Akkara Kazhchakal has approximately 80,000 viewers weekly. The show was broadcasted in India and U.S.A. It was a great success for the whole crew that stepped into the Malayalam TV industry. And because of its success, a movie sequel of the show was released on April 29, 2011 entitled AkkaraKazhchakal The Movie, under the production of Coconuts and BOM TV.
