A Bengali language television series, Debipaksha, aired on Star Jalsha. Containing a total of 118 episodes, the show aired from 30^th January to 28^th May 2017 at evening 6 pm. The story begins with the protagonist, Surya returning home to Surajgarh after fifteen years abroad where he is reunited with his childhood friend Devi and their marriage is announced. Surya joins the family business and learns that a large portion of his community’s prosperity is based on illegal smuggling carried out by his grandfather, at the same time his stepmother Amma fears losing her power and tries to sabotage the wedding and get Surya into trouble.

Suspecting this, Surya’s grandfather delegates all decisions to his trusted advisor and Devi’s father, Shivaji. Meanwhile, Amma endeavors to blame Devi’s brother Prabal for molesting Surya’s sister Anu but fails. She tries to manipulate Anu into believing that her family does not care for her, which causes her to spoil Devi’s bridal henna. She even attempts suicide. Surya tries to elope with Devi but is caught by Amma. On the night of the wedding, Amma sends Shivaji to the factory by lying and later when she declares that he is dead, Devi is devastated.

She and her brothers recover their father’s body from the factory. Seeing this, Dadaji falls ill. The discovery of the scared thread on Surya’s wrist, planted at the sight of the explosion by Amma’s agents horrifies Devi who declares that she will take revenge from Surya’s family for her father’s death. Amma rises to power, but soon Anu confesses about her role in the plan and reveals Amma’s reality. Devi performs her father’s funeral rites and assumes his position, urging people to stop smuggling. Amma is caught, and punished and the whole family is finally reunited.
