Kadal Purathil was a serial on Doordharsan that was aired on Mondays around March 1991. This serial captured the authentic dialect from South Tamil Nadu particularly from Thutugudi, Thirunelveli and Thiruchendur. The Star Cast included Viveka fine arts Veterans. Senthaamarai, a legendary actor donned the role of a fisherman. Another Veteran actor Cho essayed the character of the barrister Bhaskardas that were still in the minds of many people. Some other interesting actors were J. Lalitha and Livingston.
This was set a fishing village of Manappadu, near Thiruchendur. The majority villagers were Christians but that was not important to them. Sea was considered their religion and god. Filomina was a daughter of a poor fisherman and her mother was an angry ranter cursing everyone. Samidas was a son of a rich boat owner and they fell in love. But Samidas married a different girl and Filomina took that on her stride that fate is not with her. When her mother died she opened her box to find some memorabilia’s like embroidery piece and a photo. Thus her mother's past life was revealed and her crush for the school teacher from the photo. She made Filomina's brother a school teacher. The story also covers the life of Filomina after this and the incidents that surrounded her. Throughout the story, the director made the viewer’s feel the sense of blood relations and peace, thus making this Kadal Purathil, a best Show of that time and a memorable one through ages.
