Rajdhani was a political drama television serial that was aired on Star Plus between 1999 and 2000. The serial was produced by Bobby Bedi and is famous as the serial in which famous performer and actress Neha Dhupia started off her career.
The serial was shot exclusively in Delhi. It concentrated on the political scene in the country and claimed to give the scoop on several politically important events. The serial garnered a lot of praise for its realistic portrayal of events. The serial was fast paced and it was a modern production despite the time that it was released. The serial had very realistic characters and was at the opposite end of the spectrum from Ekta Kapoor shows.
The serial was one of the first to move away from the traditional mindset that all television serials must be soaps. It was also one of the first serials to focus on modern and controversial issues such as unwanted pregnancies, illegal political schemes, property disputes and inheritance disputes. The serial also showed events that had happened in real life and wove those events into the story that they created. The show was cancelled after a year, and there were suspicions that political pressure was behind the abrupt conclusion of the show. However, no such accusations were proved.
