Star Guild Awards did not occur in 2005, so Star Guild Awards 2006 were the second time that these awards took place. They occurred on January 21, 2006, in Mumbai. Balaji Telefilms won the Best Production House for the second time sharing in with Yash Raj Films who also won the Best Marketing of Entertainment Product award. Starting with television, The Great Indian Laughter Challenge won the Best Comedy Series award, and
Nach Baliye won the Best Title Song award. Prannoy Roy and Aroon Purie were given the Outstanding Contribution to Indian television award for their work in television.
Sarabhai vs. Sarabhai bagged the Best Ensemble Cast Award and also the Best Director-Fiction (
Deven Bhojani). TV18 got the Best Business Program for India Business Hour, and NDTV, the Best Sports Show for Cricket Controversies.
Barkha Dutt again received the Best News Anchor award.
Son Pari got the Best Children’s Programme award.
Varun Badola and
Niki Aneja Walia received the Best Actor and Actress in a Drama Series respectively for Astitva...Ek Prem Kahani.
Baldev Raj Chopra and
Dev Anand were honored by receiving the Best Contribution to Indian Cinema award.
Black got the highest awards including the Best Screenplay, the Best Sound Recording (
Resul Pookutty), the Best Re-Recording (Anup Dev), the Best Cinematography (Ravi K. Chandran), the Best Film, and the Best Art Direction (
Omung Kumar) awards. Naresh Kukunoor received the Best Story award for Iqbal, and Nipun Gupta, the Best Editing award for Sarkar.
Vaibhavi Merchant bagged the Best Choreography award for
Bunty Aur Babli. Cinderella Man won the Best Foreign Film award, Final Solution, the Best Short Film award, and Uttarayan, the Best Regional Film award. The Best Special Effects award was given to Hanuman and the Best Animated Series award to Jungle Tales.
Nach Baliye got the Best Musical Show award, Astitva...Ek Prem Kahani, the Best Fiction Series award, and
Kaun Banega Crorepati, the Best Non-Fiction Series award. The Best Actor in a Leading Role- Male and the Best Actor in a Leading Role- Female were given to
Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukherjee respectively, both received it for their performance in Black.
Ayesha Kapur received the Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Black, and
Abhishek Bachchan received the Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Yuva.
Aditya Chopra received the Best Dialogue Award for his amazing dialogues in Veer-Zaara, and
Vidya Balan, the Best Female Debut for Parineeta. Subarna Ray Chaudhuri bagged the Best Costume design award and
Pradeep Sarkar, the Best Debut Director, both won for their work in Parineeta.
Now, coming to music awards, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy received the Best Music Director Award (Bunty Aur Babli). Gulzar won the Best Lyrics award, and
Alisha Chinai, the Best Female Playback singer, both for Kajra Re.
Kunal Ganjawala bagged the Best Male Playback Singer award.
