The Great Moghuls is a documentary on the rule of the Mughals and the control exercised by them over the sub-continent of India. It was produced by Douglas Rae telecasted on Channel 4 on 2 March 1990. It was written by Bamber Gascoigne based on one of his famous books, The Great Moghuls, in 1971. It is the history of famous Mughals who ruled in India from 1526-1857. It is a 6-episode series where one episode is dedicated to each ruler except Humayun, the second ruler. Babur was the first ruler from the Mughals who came to India by seizing small villages and their armies. He crowned himself as the emperor of India by winning battles.
Humayun became the second successor, but he died suddenly, due to which his son Akbar(13 years old) succeeded the throne. As his name signifies, he became the greatest king. Jahangir, son of Akbar, became the fourth Mughal ruler who was not a man of action like his father. Shah Jahan murdered many of his relatives to become the king and made the most famous and admirable monument, the Taj Mahal. Aurangzeb was the most inhumane among all, as he killed his brothers and imprisoned his father to inherit the throne. The series is an excellent pick for all history lovers.
