‘How I met your mother’, commonly known as HIMYM, is an American sitcom series. The series is a look into the life of the protagonist Ted Mosby (Josh Randor) and his friends, set in Manhattan, New York. The series revolves around Ted narrating the story to his children of the events leading up to him meeting their mother, while they are sitting on the couch in the year 2030. The story is a flashback that starts from 2005 with a 27 year old Ted living in New York, working as an architect.
The narrative is basically of his best friends and the adventures they have together. The lives of all the characters are entwined with each other which make an interesting show to watch. The season 1 introduces Ted Mosby (voiced by Bob Saget) narrating his story in the year 2030, sitting on his couch narrating his life to his son and daughter and telling them how he met their mother. It consists of 22 episodes each running approximately 22 minutes long.
The story begins in 2005, where Ted is a 27 year old architect living in Manhattan with his best friends from college, who are - Marshall Eriksen (Jason Segel), a law student, and Lily Aldrin (Alyson Hannigan), a kindergarten teacher. Marshall and Lily have been dating for 9 years. In this season we see Marshall propose to lily which puts Ted’s life into perspective. He starts thinking about marriage and settling down, much to disgust of his self-acclaimed best friend Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris).
Ted sets out in search of true love and happiness only to fall quickly for an ambitious new reporter, Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders). But as luck would have it, she doesn’t want to rush into a relationship so they decide to be just friends. Eventually, ted starts dating a baker, Victoria (Ashley Williams). But soon after, she moves to Germany to perfect her culinary skills. During this time ted leaves an impression on robin that him and Victoria are broken up. When Victoria finds out, she promptly breaks up with ted.
This also causes Robin to distance herself from him. As the wedding day approaches, lily starts having second thoughts wondering if she is missing out on opportunities by this marriage. Thus she breaks her engagement with Marshall so that she canpursue for an art fellowship from San Francisco. In the end we can see that Marshall is broken and desolate having had is engagement ended.
