Plot

Bala is an assistant Maths teacher in a school who works gets stuck with the privatization of education. He was given a tedious task to prove himself in a school where the administrators or parents did not support him. Was he able to prove his mettle? The rest of the film showcases this.

Star Performances

Dhanush is a natural actor and has proved a lot of times that he could turn any script pleasant with his performance. His screen presence and performance in Vaathi prove this once again. Samyuktha didn’t have a significant performance-oriented role. Yet, she is neat in the given role. Samuthirakani’s role is a usual villain and not so menacing. Ken Karunas and a few actors who played the students did their best.

Analysis

Education is the central theme; hence, we can see traces of films related to the genre. Dhanush’s screen presence is the biggest plus in the movie, and he shoulders the script well. The film displays a lot of social issues but hadn’t provided any final solution to them. Some social problems are sorted out only in cinemas, and people enjoy the heroes’ performances, and that’s because of perfect writing. Though Vaathi’s writing is decent, it needed better writing to make it completely satisfactory material. The music by GV Prakash elevates many sequences, and the songs are fantastic too. The visuals are cool. The film is set in the 90s era, but except for a few things from that period, nothing was shown, and the story appears to be happening in the contemporary period.

Verdict

The biggest positive of the film is it is not too preachy. Dhanush’s performance makes the role solid and impressive. It is a watch-worthy film with the performances and the societal issues sorted.
