Plot

A young politician is murdered just before the elections in Kochi. An IT employee is being pursued by goons. A package from the Gulf proves to be more than just a simple delivery. How are these events connected? Will the investigating officer, CI Jacob Alexander, get his due answers?

Star Performances

There are only two good things to remember about this otherwise forgettable film: Nivin Pauly and Sooraj Venjaramoodu. Only these two attempted their best to salvage a film that was irredeemable from the word go.

Analysis

A bunch of friends, an IT employee on the run, and a resolute cop all join for a common purpose: to find the killer of a young politician. What could go wrong with a plot as simplistic as that? Well, everything, when the producer is Dileep and the film is “The Metro.”

Set in Kochi, the film opts for a hyperlink format. However, the challenge ahead is making the anthology engaging enough. On this front, director Bipin Prabhakar has failed rather miserably.

This is one of the first Malayalam projects of Tamilian actor R Sarathkumar. However, he looks out of place with patchy dubbing, and a badly written character, despite his best efforts. The melodrama only adds to the irritation. Even Dileep’s presence as the narrator doesn’t make things any better for the film.

As for the acting performances, there is nothing much to offer. Even Bhavana Mohan is merely there; she doesn’t mark a striking presence with her acting. Only Suraj Venjaramoodu and Nivin Pauly attempt to salvage the film somehow with their respective efforts. Suraj’s efforts even appear genuine, with his comic interludes. However, due to the lack of a proper storyline, these efforts just don’t seem enough at all.

Verdict

‘The Metro’ may have been a very good idea. However, in terms of execution, director Bipin Prabhakar and writer Vyasan Edavanakkadu’s efforts tell a different story altogether. If not for the efforts of actors like Nivin Pauly, this film is best left forgotten!
