Swathy Narayanan has worked on some Malayalam movies. And she is lucky enough to get a meaty role in the Kollywood flick Ilai, about which we are going to talk today. The movie, which focuses on education of girl child, has hit the screens today. Lets see how it has turned to be.

Plot

The movie is set in the backdrop of a village in Tamil Nadu. Here girl child education is not appreciated. Swathy Narayanan has big dreams about her life and want to make it big. Her father also supports her dream. However, her mother is against Swathy’s dreams. Swathy excels in her studies and predictably she is faced with problems in the form of jealousy by a landlord’s daughter, who is her classmate. Swatthy is put into problems by not able to take up the final exams. How Swathy emerges a winner after facing all the obstacles form the crux of the story.

Star Performances

Swathy Narayanan earlier appeared in the Malayalam flick Su-Su-Sudhi Vathmeekam. She virtually carries her debut Kollywood film on her shoulders. She shines as the student who strives to accomplish her dream. The rest of the cast of Ilai also have done a convincing job.

Analysis

The director of this flick, Bineesh Raj Bio coming soon... >> Read More... , has worked on many ad films and this is his debut film as a movie director. He shows the earnestness of the students in village side to study and how they strive to accomplish their dreams. However, though the movie has a good message, about students trying to achieve their dreams, the movie is dragging in many places, making the viewer bored.

What’s there?

Throughout the film one will develop a soft corner for the girl who wants to cross all the hurdles and achieve her dream.
Cinematography of Ilai is commendable.
The music of Vishnu Diwakaran gels well with the tempo of the movie. •
VFX should be given special mention in the movie.

What’s not there?
