Plot
Oh My Darling revolves around a young couple, Jenny (Anikha Surendran) and Joel (Melvin G Babu). Jenny is a college student, and Joel is a 24-year-old BTech graduate who wants to pursue an animation career. Both are deeply in love, and everything is smooth in their relationship. However, things take a turn when Jenny gets pregnant. She decides to continue with the pregnancy. Jenny is firm on her decision not to abort the pregnancy.
What will Joel do now? Will he leave Jenny? If not, then what decisions will he make to deal with this unexpected situation? What will be the reaction of the couple’s parents?
Star Performance
After his film Jo and Jo, Melvin G Babu shines in this film, too. His expressions, body language, and dialogue are appealing to the viewers. In the initial scenes, his immature acts appear to be impressive. As the film reaches the climax, Melvin seems to run the whole film alone. He gave the best performance as compared to the other cast.
Anikha Surendran looks pretty on the screen. She shows all the emotions and expressions according to the situation. Her acting when she decides to continue with the pregnancy is outstanding. Mukesh and Johny Antony look decent in the character of the fathers of Jenny and Joel. Dain Davis and Fukru did everything required.
Analysis
The first half entertains the viewers with romance and comedy. It is full of the beautiful love moments between Joel and Jenny. There are also various pleasant songs. In the second half, the film moves from romance and comedy to a seriousness. The second half is about how Joel deals with the unexpected situation and the family bonding. The ending is very positive. From the title song, it is clear that Jenny is a BTS fan.
Director Alfred D. Samuel has crafted all the romantic and comedic scenes perfectly. The camerawork by Ansar Shah enhances the love elements. Shaan Rahman’s songs became famous even before release. The film also discusses a medical condition called Denial. Denial syndrome happens when our mind rejects all the inappropriate situations. Oh My Darling is not just a romantic comedy film. It also shows various issues that society hardly discusses.
