music school, training under a hard to impress mentor Terence Fletcher. The story that the movie narrates is very simple, but the intricacy with which the characters in the movie are crafted facilitates the movie’s entrance into the realm of extraordinary. The story that is the highlight of the movie is that of a great saxophonist, Charlie Parker, who was mocked by a drummer during an on going performance, which led him to become eventually immortal as the artiste he went to on become. Artistes are born with 20% of talent and 80% of the inspiration in the form of incidents that happen to them. Terrence Fletcher has a passion to search for a to-be-Charlie Parker, whom he can train to death and immortalize. Needless to say, Andrew comes across as that person. What happens next is a series of training, not delivering up to mark, being insulted upon, being motivated enough, being passionate to the core, putting in hard work and finally tasting the happiness of not merely fulfilling the expectations but rising way above them.
Analysis:
Every movie has a part of it, which the audience falls in love with. This one is a whole such part. From direction to writing to screenplay to power-packed performances. One can’t pinpoint or choose a part over another; everything is taken care of. Especially the climax where it becomes difficult to distinguish the movie with an art form, chaotic and beautiful, charming the audience in such a way that one can feel the fire being enacted.
Star Performances:
J K Simmons, delivers another jaw-dropping performance. He plays Terrence in a way that you cant differentiate the character and the actor. The actor is imprinted forever in the minds of the audience as Terrence; that is the authenticity with which the role has been played.
