Plot
This film is about the struggle of a homosexual girl named Cameron Post. Cameron Post is secretly in love with another girl named Coley Taylor and has a secret relationship with her. However, one day during homecoming night, the two girls are caught red-handed having sex in Coley’s car, by Cameron’s boyfriend. After witnessing this he outs both of them. Cameron’s aunt hears about Cameron’s situation. Her Aunt Ruth is a devout Christian, and she decides to send Cameron to a gay conversion therapy center called “God’s Promise”. Dr. Lydia Marsha and her brother run the centre. Her brother also claims that he was homosexual in the past and that Lydia’s methods cured him. Cameron also meets Erin, who is her roommate. Erin is looking forward to curing her homosexuality and believes in the camp’s purpose. Cameron meets and grows close to two people:

and Adam Red Eagle. The three bond in their shared skepticism of the camp’s motive.
Star Performance
Chloe Grace Moretz has done an excellent job acting as the homosexual character and reacts appropriately to the different struggles her character has to face.
Analysis
The film successfully shows the struggles that come with being homosexual and the prejudice that homosexual people have to face. It also manages to show us how religion can sometimes be misused to spread hate or bias, as well as how abusive these conversion therapy programs can be to homosexuals, even in real life. The star actress has given a brilliant performance as Cameron Post and the other cast members have also performed well. The film is straightforward but accurate and true to life and nicely shows how many homosexual people have been made to feel impure because of their homosexuality. The scene where Cameron learns about the letter Coley sent, is heart wrenching as it makes her feel as though she has sinned and needs to correct her sexuality. This guilt profoundly affects individuals even in real life. The visuals of the film are excellent, and the writing is witty.

This film is an excellent non-preachy film that does a good job in spreading awareness of homophobia. Recommended for all audiences, especially those individuals who are questioning their sexuality and would like to watch a relatable movie.
