Plot
A mother who experienced a traumatic house invasion with her son is portrayed by Katie Holmes, a star who has long needed a career makeover. Since then, mom has developed anxiety and nightmares, and Jude, her 8-year-old son, has completely stopped talking. The family relocates to a vacation home in the countryside as they try to make sense of what happened. Jude discovers an old porcelain doll buried in the earth on the grounds of an old gothic manor. What at first seems like a valuable tool to help Jude communicate again swiftly devolves into an even worse nightmare when Brahms the doll seizes complete control of the young victim of emotional abuse.
Star Performance
Katie Holmes makes an effort. She does give the acting her best go, and I have to give her credit for at least trying, even though her lines, character, and the situations her character finds herself in can all be entirely predictable.
Analysis
After a boy (Jude) and mother (Liza) were both traumatized by an unplanned burglary, the family moved to a house in the country. Jude names a dusty, unkempt porcelain doll that he finds Brahms. The doll causes a horrible shift in everything at that point. Because it seems like there isn't enough story to fill out a feature-length production, there are some dream sequences that don't progress the plot at all. Starcast did their job up to the mark, but the characters weren't well executed. Cinematography saved the film to some extent. The actors and spectators need better.

The acting, ambiance, and cinematography are all excellent. But the poor thing is that the plot is pointless and dull.
