Splice is a science fiction movie with some horror and ugly sex scenes in it.

Splice is all about the advancement of gene synthesis engineering and also its negative effects. Splice is a compilation of irrelevant sex and nudity, so please consider this aspect before letting your children watch it.

Plot:

Elsa and Clive are both scientist couple working as genetic engineers at N.E.R.D. (Nucleic Exchange Research and Development). They created some female specimen and mated it with a vermiform creature, by splicing some animal D.N.A., naming them Ginger and Fred respectively. After the successful mating of the two specimens, the couple now wants to splice human and animal D.N.A. to be able to create a new specimen which would be useful for their research.

But the higher officials consider their idea unfruitful and hence ask them to discontinue the experiment and start focusing on collecting proteins from Fred and Ginger, which would be useful for some drug production.
Clive and Elsa feel that they should continue the experiment and splices the animal D.N.A. with a human D.N.A. and just before they terminate the hybrid before reaching its full term, it developed a new specimen, which Elsa called Dren. Fearing of the discovery of Dren, the couple shifts her to a barn nearby. Since Elsa doesn’t have kids, she takes care of Dren like her real daughter. The couple discovers that the specimen is aging at an accelerated rate, and it is amphibious. It also stings Elsa several times and hurts Clive’s brother, Gavin.

While their focus is on Dren, on the other hand, Ginger develops into a male specimen, and a fight arouses between Fred and Ginger, beating each other to death.

Later on, Dren develops carnivorous tendencies, and its sexual urge reaches to maximum, seducing Clive to have sex with her.
What will happen to the motherly affection of Elsa to Dren when she discovers that Clive had sex with Dren? What will happen to Dren after reaching adolescence and growing at a rapid rate? Why did Dren suddenly rape Elsa? Please find it by watching the movie.

Star Performances:

Adrien Brody, Sarah Polley, and Delphine Chaneac have managed to make an impact with their notable performances in the film. With a budget of $30 million, the movie is well executed.

What’s there?

The idea is untouched and well developed.

What’s not there?

The technology used was out of date. It could have been presentable.
The idea is new, but the story is predictable. Though there are some unexpected turns in the movie at the climax, it is awful
There are lots of sex and nudity all along the movie.

Verdict:

The movie is a science fiction horror which doesn’t get you goose bumps and bores you if you are not a science lover. Do not allow children to watch it since it has a lot of unnecessary naked scenes.
