One day is a romantic drama film directed by Lone Scherfig and adapted from the bestseller novel of the same name by David Nicholls.
Plot
The film starts with a current day scene in 2006 but soon goes into the flashback in 1988. The film revolves around a couple of Dexture Mayhew (

) and Emma Morlay (Anne Hathway), who secretly love each other but fails to admit. Back in 1988 on July 15, they had a one night stand which changes their life. On the same date of different years they usually meet by coincidence, but till then they never accept they love each other and move with different partners. Later, when Dexture failed in his T.V. career and had a divorce with his wife, then he comes to Emma, who is in Paris now and tells him about his feelings. Then they get married, and something horrible happens which changes their life.
Star performances
Jim Sturgess does an adorable job as a handsome flirty guy who can’t resist himself without noticing a beautiful lady. Guilt can be seen in his eyes when he talks to Emma and his parents. Anne Hathway completely disappoints with her performance; she could have done better. Supporting cast delivers an average performance.
Analysis
The movie is very different from the novel. The film plays according to Dexture’s character but in novel other characters also get importance. The director did a nice job, although the concept was not original. The film feels very rushed for a rom-com, but also over-long. The film has one or two laugh lines.

1. Adapted but poor screenplay from a bestseller.
2. Much importance has been provided to Dexture where other characters are ignored.
Verdict
The film is not that good as the novel, but if you like to watch love story, then you can watch it.
