The state of Washington has a reputation because of the ‘ Twilight Click to look into! >> Read More... ’ series of always being a dark and depressing place, but that’s not true. There’s quite a bit of sun, which is a problem for a 17-year-old girl in this film. This film is directed by Scott Speer and features Bella Thorne in the character of Katie, Patrick Schwarzenegger as Charlie, Rob Riggle Robert Allen Riggle Jr.is an American entertainer >> Read More... as Jack, and Quinn Shephard as Morgan, Katie’s best friend.

Plot:

Katie is born with a rare skin disease called the Xeroderma Pigmentosum, popularly known as XP. Due to this disease, her skin can’t cope with the ultraviolet rays of the sun. In fact, hers’ is a severe case and even little of sunlight can cause her body to stop functioning and can also kill her. This condition has afflicted her for her entire life now. She can’t help but sleep during the day and stay up during the night. As the sun goes down, she hangs out with her best friend Morgan and her dad. She has grown old now and has graduated from high school and is eager to explore the world, but can only at night. On the occasion of her high school graduation, she takes her deceased mother’s guitar and head towards a local train. Just when she thinks she can’t be seen and is invisible to the rest of the world, her childhood crush Charlie- the boy she has watched all her life from the window, walks towards her and asks her out. Katie is very excited about this but also is in a dilemma as for how to tell him that she can’t meet him during the day. She has to decide if she would reveal everything about her disease to him or pretend and carry on as if it isn’t a big deal.

Analysis:

Romances involving teenagers’ life-changing conditions seem to be filmed more these days. In the recent times, The Fault in Our Stars, Me and Earl, and The Dying Girl, and many such movies have taken the heart of the audience and glued them to their seats. All we have to see now is sick teens’ falling in love but that also seems to be working fine.

Star Performance:

The cast has done a brilliant job with their performances and has made an emotional connection with the audience. This heartwarming love story needs actors who can portray the love, the emotions and the rage of the teenagers as well as the good parent-daughter relationship. All this have been pulled off well by the cast.

What’s there?

1. The movie has many young fans.

2. It gives out a very meaningful message to its viewers.

3. Throughout the film, we learn that living in the moment is the most important way of living and people are the ones who make life worth living.

What’s not there?

1. The midnight sun isn’t perfect; it has some issues too.

2. The issues in the film are regarding its plot and can be deciphered only by families with teenagers.

Verdict:

On the whole, it is a contemporary romance flick and also sends a message of a relationship shared between a father and a daughter.
