You might have seen the two protagonists in this film in the popular American sitcom, New Girl New Girl was an American English television series >> Read More... . They have made a big leap to the big screen with Let’s Be Cops, but how successful are they in this new venture? They play a pair of your day-to-day guys who go through a metamorphic experience when they pretend to be cops.
Plot:
Ryan (Jake Jhonson) and Justin (Damon Wayanas, Jr) are those two 30-year-olds who realize that their life is moving in no wanted direction. Ryan is an actor (so he calls himself) who is more often than not out of work and Justin is a video-game developer, a spineless man who isn’t quite happy with his job and is always ridiculed by his boss.
Justin presents a Police themed video game idea to his boss that is brutally rejected. This leaves Justin with nothing except his good-for-nothing friend and police costumes. Ryan and John decide to wear those costumes to a masquerade party which they mistaken as a costume party. The costume worn by them helps garner lots of female attention that both of them seem to enjoy pretty much. As this point, we pretty much know what is going to happen next.
Director Luke Greenfield has tried to give this movie a comic edge; however the comic timing and the weak script does not let this dream of the director come true. The dialogues, while written in good faith are not executed up to the mark. The protagonist then decides to carry on this drama for a while long. While Justin is a bit reluctant, Ryan has loved the attention and decided to play along. He goes to the extent of buying an old police car on E-bay and designing it to look like a real LPAD car.
It helps Ryan get attention from Josie ( Nina Dobrev She is a Canada-based model and actress. She showe >> Read More... ) a beautiful coffee shop waitress he has been pining after. It all seems hunky dory until their shenanigans take a serious turn involving them with the underworld and escaping near death incidents. But guess what? They still don’t stop. Well, we hope they find some meaning to life after so many stints.
Verdict:
Let’s be Cops is a movie you can watch after you are done with the other movies on your ‘To-watch-movies’ list. While it won’t make you bang your head, it will sure give you a few side laughs.
