Both portray their characters exceedingly well and impress the audience. The story further conveys how Gary had to save his life and his family and had been warned off by the CIA in the name of “national security.” While one can question the facts stated in the movie, one has no doubt about the fact that the movie is powerful.
The positives of the movie include the performances and the story. What does not work for the film is its running time. The director Michael Cuesta’s film is of 1hour and 52 minutes, and sometimes the pace of the movie suffers. This biopic of Gary Webb is intelligently made. The phenomenal performance of Jeremy Renner, Rosemarie DeWitt and that of others take the movie several notches higher. This political thriller should not be missed.
