Plot 

The film was set after an apocalypse has wiped out Earth’s population. Del, played by Peter Dinklage, believes he is the last human left in the world. He spends his burying the dead and cleaning out their homes. Del lives in the library where he used to work. One night, he hears loud sounds, and when he goes out to investigate, he sees fireworks go off. The next day, he finds Grace, played by Elle Fanning, in her car after an accident. Del tries to make Grace leave but later relents and lets her stay with him. He teaches her to clean the homes of the dead with him. They live their life in harmony, but Del is surprised when Grace’s parents show up. Grace tells him that many other survivors have set up a colony. But the settlement and the survivors have a secret of their own. The film follows their journey as they try to find solace in each other.    

Star Performance

Peter Dinklage gives a stellar performance as a rude and unwelcoming Del, who later opens up because of Grace’s love and affection. Elle Fanning is perfect as the innocent and bubbly Grace. 

Analysis 

The film presents a stark picture of a post-apocalyptic world. Peter Dinklage as Del accurately represents how withdrawn a person who has been living all alone would be. It also conveys that love and affection are all one needs to lead a good life.

What’s There?

• A well-executed post-apocalypse film

• Entertaining story and plot-twists

• The film shows a heartwarming relationship between two people who are poles apart in their temperament.

What’s Not There?

• The plot may feel boring and predictable, with no real element of surprise and compelling scenes.

Verdict

The film would make for an entertaining watch for thriller and science-fiction enthusiasts. The film has enthralling visuals and spectacular performances from the protagonists.
