Plot

The film starts, and we see that a raid is going on in the drug lab. Mal, who is a detective, is shot while he is trying to catch an escaping suspect, but he gets lucky that he is wearing a bulletproof jacket. After he winds up the scene there, he returns to his car to go home. On his way, he started drinking to celebrate his achievement, and meanwhile, he met with an accident. He strikes a young boy who is on a bike with his side mirror; he takes responsibility an immediately calls an ambulance for the boy. But when the cops arrive, he denies any involvement in the incident. The cops involved in the scene were Jim Melic, the young detective constable, and his senior, Carl Summer. At that moment Carl recognizes Mal and sends Jim to lock the location. Now Carl decides to question Mal privately and decides to let him go, which makes Jim doubtful about the situation. Later we get to know that William Sarduka and Jim fall in love with Ankhila (the boy’s mother). The rest of the film revolves around that with a lot of thrill.

Star Performance

The lead role is played by Joel Edgerton in the role of a detective, he is portrayed as a moral conflicted character and describes his role quite well. The other character who has performed relatively efficiently is Tom Wilkinson, who plays the role of Carl Anders as a senior detective. Tom is known for his acting skills of playing more complex characters, moreover, his role is convincing in the film. The next character that deserves recognition is John, played by Jai Courtney Jai Stephen Courtney was born on 15 March 1986. He >> Read More... . All the other characters together have delivered the right amount of intensity that the film needed.

Analysis

The plot revolves around a police detective, Mal. He causes an accident to which he refuses to accept. The rest of the movie drives around his tension in an attempt to get himself out of the situation. The biggest strength of the film is the director, Matthew Saville. He did a great job in managing the emotions of each character with the right amount of complexity to breathe life into the characters. The cast, cinematography, background music, and all other side factors were average to go with the film. Viewers may complain about the story’s pacing, which is sometimes too fast and some other times is just too slow for the plot to go. Altogether, the filmmakers managed all the elements and set it right to watch.

What’s There?

  • The Australian theme is seamlessly captured and served right to the audience.
  • The story is managed relatively well with the cinematography and music.

What’s Not There?

  • The filmmakers should have worked more in its pacing, which seems to be relatively fast in some parts.

Analysis

Altogether, it is an average movie to watch. You can go for the watch if you are not specifically searching for a fast-paced film. But this film is average, with thought-provoking cinematic experiences throughout.
