In this new action thriller,
Tom Cruise
plays the role of a Major William Cage who gets thrown in between a massive combat with the ability to be able to see the future bring an end to the war that they are fighting against the alien-like creatures who seem to be having the same ability.Â
Plot: The movie is set at such a time when the human race is dealing with the aftermath of an alien invasion. Major William Cage is a the Army public relations officer who has been given orders to participate in the current battle that is waging between the humans and the aliens, but soon after he enters the battlefield he gets shot down very quickly because of his utter lack in experience. However, he finds himself back in the same situation again and again so that he can figure out what he is doing wrong and get closer to finding the secret that is helping the enemies win. To send him back in time repeatedly, many scientists are working for this mission and guiding him whenever they can, so that every time he is going back to the same time, he can get one step closer to their goal of defeating the enemies.Â
This is a science fiction that has been so intricately woven and told in such an intense condition and literally in between a raging battle. Tom Cruise has been the best choice for Major Cage as he is the only person who can play a character who is a completely inexperienced person in the beginning and the frequent trips back to the battle transforms him into a much smarter fighter who gets increasingly better and better at combat. The performances by the other actors were much more of a supporting nature to Tom Cruise, but they still had their brief moments in the limelight. The movie is a thrilling watch that is undoubtedly filled with constant action and fighting sequences and many trial and error methods as we are looking for the ways to stop the war just like the characters are, as we are coming to know about any developments along with them, as Cage gets nearer to the goal.Â
This movie is particularly interesting as the repeated scenes that Cage has to go through are shown in such a way that it doesn’t seem dragging on or boring. In fact, the scenes have been constructed in such a way so that every time some new important clue or element is highlighted, and the parts that are irrelevant are done away with without creating a visual jerk or confusion. It seems more of a very complicated puzzle that everyone is trying to solve rather than just an action movie filled with meaningless fighting and explosions.Â
Verdict: To this very interestingly told story that involves the audience in the quest to find out a way to defeat the aliens who seem to have taken over the human race, I give this movie 4 out of 5 victories.
