Well, you would have heard about rich families trying their best to bury few bad secrets. Crimson Peak has these secrets too. And our heroine is dressed in flamboyant nightgowns. And yes you heard it right….a crumbling house…well if this is enough to make a watchable movie….then it’s very much your call!
Director Guillermo Del Toro’s has done a neat job. This film goes back to 1901. The production values are commendable and it does full justice to the title. There is also a beautiful ensemble of cast. Jessica Chastain has indeed come up with a riveting performance. Well, these would suffice for a set of viewers. But for the hard-core critics, this film fails to keep you hooked to the seat sometimes, owing to the plain nature of the story. All the same, one should surely mention the set-up which is really engrossing and alive. There is a feel of eeriness in the air, throughout the film.
Camera work is outstanding and the meticulous planning for this movie is clearly vivid. For instance, you could clearly hear the faint sound of walking with the boots in a snow. This is just one example. The narration is also good. Kate Hawley’s costume designing is just stunning. She adores Mia Wasikowska and Jessica Chastain in night suits that is so surreal.
Verdict: The audience will struggle to connect with the romantic track of the film. There seems to be some deceit in the romance, throughout the film. The romantic track could have surely been told in a better way in this film.
