Beastly is the current adaptation of the popular Beauty and the Beast A fantasy- musical film directed by Bill Condon, B >> Read More... that conveys the significance of looking past the superficial and transient external beauty, to discover the inner beauty of the soul.

Plot

This movie follows the journey of the arrogant and malevolent Kyle Kingson (Allex Pettyfer) who bathes in the glory of his charming looks and money. However, this is short-lived. His blatant nature of humiliating and embarrassing others doesn’t even spare his classmate Kendra ( Mary Kate Olsen Mary-Kate Olsen is a renowned business woman, prod >> Read More... ) who he had invited to the school’s environmental bash. Unfortunately for him, she’s a witch and to take her revenge, she curses him.

He is then transformed into a beast-like creature with scars, ghastly tattoos, and a bald head. This leads to him being put in a posh hideout by his narcissistic father, who now neglects his son because of his revolting appearance. After facing rejection from his father, he finds comfort in the housemaid, Zola Davies (Lisa Gay Hamilton) and his blind teacher ( Neil Patrick Harris Neil Patrick Harris is a brilliant actor, producer >> Read More... ). He soon discovers, that his only chance to regain and return to his original form is to find someone who will love and respond the way he is before next spring otherwise he would have to live with this ugly form forever. ). For starters, Kyle manages to strike a deal with a drug dealer to convince his daughter Lindy Taylor ( Vanessa Hudgens Vanessa Hudgens aka Vanessa Anne Hudgens is an Ame >> Read More... ) to stay in Kyle’s Brooklyn home in return for his freedom.

It then traces his journey of finding true love in Lindy who reciprocates the same over a period, eventually helping him break free of his curse. Analysis: This film fails to deliver as promised and does not live up to the level of the classic. Modern aspects are just thrown into the film to give it a contemporary touch, for instance, the use of cell phones and social media websites etc. The plot progresses with a very clichéd outlook; a rich brat being taught a lesson for his viciousness, who then falls in love with a simple, ordinary girl. Nothing new is explored or experimented with by the director, Daniel Barnz.

Star Performances:

1.It is a disappointment for those who want to watch the movie because of Vanessa Hudgens of High School Musical fame or Allex Pettyfer. They bore with their dull performances.

2. The only person who is tolerable is Neil Patrick Harris despite his not so meaningful role.

What’s there?

1. Underage drinking, sexual innuendo and a lot of kissing are incorporated in this film

What’s not there?

2. The Quebec shots don’t fit in perfectly as the New York Click to look into! >> Read More... shots. 3. Certain scenes are rushed up in the end.

Verdict: Overall the film will be appreciated by the naïve kids, who will be more than happy to watch this fairytale remake with their favorite actors playing out the characters.
