Plot
After spending about two decades in England, Mr. Bill Bryson, a 60-year-old man, returns to his state of New Hampshire. He wanted to live an amicable and harmonious life. But the media kept posting about Mr. Bill’s books and speculations about the new launching of books, although he had no such plans. One day Mr. Bill was driving home from a funeral with his wife, Catherine and he suddenly stopped the car at the nearby Appalachian Trail and made up his mind to go on a trek, Catherine rejected his idea and stated multiple reasons for accidents, robbery, and murders to stop him from going on a hike. Mr. Bill considered his wife’s concern and decided to take a companion along with him for the hike. He tries convincing his friends for the idea but everyone declares him insane and declines his invitation. But one of his friends, Stephen Katz offered to go with him, and they started preparing for the trip.
Star Performance
Robert Redford and Nick Nolte are the actors who understood their characters and their performance adds essence to the movie. The film is well produced and directed, with each of the cast chosen wisely. The cinematography and beautiful sights elevated the movie to another level.
Analysis
The story is about a guy who pursued life and then got sidetracked in what is essential somewhere along the way, he stopped truly living and seeking beauty and adventure every day. His friend Katz helped rekindle that fire on their journey and helped him get back on track. The movie is not action-packed or super silly comedy or sexy from my perception, but a deeper but fun movie that makes you think. The film delivers an honest character and is not pretentious at all. Altogether you will enjoy the humor and how two older buddies could find common ground after so many years apart with a good, interesting, and engaging storyline in the sense it felt paced very well.
