Prapanchan,” the popular writer from Puducherry died today due to cancer. The Sahitya Academy winner is 73. He had been getting treatment for cancer for the past one month. Prapanchan’s original name is S Vaidyalingam and he was born in Puducherry in 1945. Prapanchan is married and he has three sons with his wife Pramila. His family lives in Chennai.
His notable works are Vaanam Vasappadum, Mahandhi, Sandhya, Maanudam Vellum, Kagidha Manidhargal, Padhavi, Penmai Velga, Netru Manidhargal, Vittu Viduthalayagi, Muttai, Akalya and many more. He had not only written the novels but short stories and plays too.
Besides Sahitya Academy Award, he received Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad, Coimbatore Kasturi Rangammal Award, Ilakkiya Chinthanai Award and a few more. May his soul rest in peace! Our sincere condolences to Prapanchan’s family!
