Director V. Gowthaman requests all the Tamils and the actors and the actresses to avoid the New Year celebrations. “Still Chennai has not recovered completely from the effects of the torrential rain and the floods. 2015 rain has overtaken the record created by the 1918 rain. Many people lost their homes, essentials and even the lives. Nearly 1, 00,000 people become homeless due to the rain. A loss of Rs. 90, 000 Crore is being suffered. When a disaster happens, the humanity stands at the top; again this is proved. Chennai received help from various people from various states. Funds started to flow from various countries too. None saw the religion, caste or creed. Film industry people donated whatever they could afford. Some of the actors and the actresses visited the victims directly and helped them. As Tamilnadu has suffered a lot, the government did not celebrate Christmas. So, please avoid celebrating New Year. Tamilnadu Hotel Association has cancelled the New Year bash at the hotels and said that the members will help the Chennai victims. My request is to the film industry people, who are ready for the celebration. You would have planned a budget for the New Year celebration. Kindly spend the money for the victims of the rain and flood. They will praise you if you help them. Kindly help the victims and make 2016 as a humanity year,” says Gowthaman.
