The Big Temple turned 1000 years in 2010 and in its 1010th year, it is getting consecrated again. The inscriptions in the temple show its ancient culture and tradition. The temple is located in the southern bank of the river Cauvery in Thanjavur. The temple has got a place in UNESCO’s World Heritage Site. The consecration is done today (5th February 2020) in Tamil and Sanskrit.
Usually, the Kumbabishekam (Sanskrit) or Kudamuzhukku (Tamil) will be done by chanting the Sanskrit Mantras. As per the request by a huge set of people, this time, the government announced that it will be done in both languages. The temple is one of the finest examples of the artistic excellence of the Tamils. Though we don’t spread our incredible tradition and culture, let’s try to preserve it.
