, despite the success of movies like ‘Aavesham’, ‘ARM’, ‘Premalu’, etc., Mollywood suffered significant losses in 2024. Out of more than 200 movies released last year, just 24 were financially successful. This resulted in significant losses ranging to almost 700 crores.
According to a press release issued by the FCK [Film Chamber of Kerala, star fees is gobbling up most of the movie’s budget. The producers are also miffed with the heavy taxation on the movie earnings.
Mollywood previously faced a strike in 2024, when the distributors refused to screen new movies over a conflict with the producers over the revenue. However, with the government authorities intervening, the strike was called off within days.
