The jury has Madhu, the actor; PV Gangadharan, the film producer; Rani George, the Cultural Affairs Secretary and the filmmaker T Rajeevnath, Chalachitra Academy Chairman. This award is given by the Kerala Government since 1992, in the memory of the legendary filmmaker JC Daniel, who is said to be the father of Malayalam Cinema. His first movie as a director was through Utsavam in 1975. The iconic movies, Avalude Ravukal, Angadi, Athirathram, Devasuram are helmed by Sasi.
