Recently a bunch of actors protested against the Censor Board’s decision to edit the title of a family drama. But what was the issue about?
Titled ‘Oru Bharatha Sarkar Ulppannam’, the film is about population control, and how a person’s life changes when he becomes a part of the government plan. The film is written by Nizam Rawther and directed by TV Renjith. The film stars an ensemble cast of Subeesh Sudhi, Shelly N Kumar, Aju Varghese, Gouri G Kishan, etc.
So, what does the Censor Board have to do with it? The Censor Board didn’t like the idea of the word ‘Bharatha’ associated with this title. They suggested the makers drop the word ‘Bharatha’. Since the explanation for the same isn’t public, many analysts believe this to be a high-handed approach by the certification.
This is why the makers approached the higher authorities, due to which the film’s release was delayed by a week. The film will now be released on the silver screen on 8 March. However, this is not the first such controversy associated with the Censor Board. Only a few months ago, actor Vishal Reddy accused some of the Board members of corruption, when his film ‘Mark Antony’ wasn’t cleared for release!
