Shoaib Malik is a Pakistani cricketer. He was born on 1 February 1982 in Sialkot, Punjab, Pakistan. The middle-order right-handed batsman plays for the Pakistan national cricket team and the Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Shoaib was the captain of the national cricket team of Pakistan from 2007 to 2009. He made his ODI debut against West Indies in 1999. He made his debut in Test cricket against Bangladesh in 2001. He retired from the latter on 3 November 2015. On 2 July 2018, he became the first male cricketer to play 100 T20Is. He retired from ODI cricket on 5 July 2019. He has taken over 150 ODI wickets and averages in the mid-30s in both Test and ODI cricket. During his test career, he has batted at five different positions and has an impressive record of batting at every position except 11th in ODIs.

In March 2010, he received a one-year ban from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), but that decision was overturned two months later. He was handed over the captaincy of the national cricket team, following the resignation of Inzamam-ul-Haq after the 2007 World Cup. In his first series as a captain, Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka 2-1 in an ODI series in Abu Dhabi. His captaincy lasted for two years. During his captaincy tenure, he led his country in three Tests, losing two and drawing one, 36 ODIs, winning 24, and 17 T20Is, winning 12. Delhi Daredevils signed him and played in the inaugural season of the IPL in 2008. Shoaib was appointed the captain of the Karachi Kings in the first PSL tournament.

He was retained by the Kings in the second edition as well. In the third edition, he joined Multan Sultans as a captain. He was part of Barbados Tridents from 2013 to 2017 in the Caribbean Premier League. He joined the Guyana Amazon Warriors for the sixth edition of CPL. He was a crucial part of the Hobart Hurricanes for the 2013-14 Big Bash League season. Talking about his personal life, he divorced his wife, Ayesha Siddique, on 7 April 2010.
