Visweswar Rao won two National Film Awards for Best Feature Film (Telugu) in the years 1979 for the film Nagna Satyam and 1980 for the film Harishchandrudu. He won a Nandi Award as Best Director for the film Keerthi Kantha Kanakan in the year 1972 and Nandi Awards as Best Screenplay Writer for the film Pellila Chadarangam (1988). He also received the honorable Dadasaheb Phalke Award from Dadasaheb Phalke Academy in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Visweswar Rao appeared in many comic roles in the Telugu Films.
