DVS Raju’s full name is Datla VenKata Suryanarayana Raju. He was an Indian film producer well known for his works in Telugu Bollywood and Cinema. He was born on December 13, 1928. DVS Raju’s place of birth is Allavaram, East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, India. He belonged to the Telugu Raju family. He went to Chennai (then Madras) in 1950. He received the Bhishma Award, the Raghupathi Venkaiah Award, and the Padma Shri for his contributions to Indian cinema. DVS Raju made a name and rose his stature at the national level and went on to made his positions as a National Film Development Corporation of India(NFDC) chairperson and president of Film Federation of India (1979 – 80). As a National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC) chairperson, he was instrumental in co-funding the making of biographical film “Gandhi,” directed by Richard Attenborough, which was an Oscar-award winning film. He had served as chairman of the State Film Development Corporation. He received Filmfare Award for Best Film – Telugu (JeevanJyothi) in 1975. Also, he won the Nandi Award for Best Feature Film – Gold (JeevanJyothi). In 1988, he was honoured with Raghupathi Venkaiah Award by Andhra Pradesh Government. In 2001, he was presented by Padma Shri Award by Government of India. DVS Raju died on Saturday, November 13, 2010 after brief illness in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India.
