C. Lakshmi Rajyam was a popular actress who was born in the year 1922 in Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh. Lakshmi learnt music at an early age from her uncle, Narasimham. Saluri Rajeshwara rao taught her the Harikatha. She was a wonderful stage drama artist, who got famous at an early age.
Puvvula Suri Babu
was running a drama troupe. Due to her passion in action, she met Suri Babu with her uncle Venkata Ramaiah and asked him for an opportunity to act in his troupe. Being wondered about her passion in acting, he joined both of them in his troupe and provided them with decent roles. It was the time, when people shifted to the cinemas from the stage. She too got an opportunity to act in the cinema. Her debut movie was as a child artist in the Shri Krishna Leelalu. After performing as a child artist in many films, she started to act as a heroine in the year 1940, at the young age of 18. She got a second heroine role in the movie Illalu in 1940 and her name became very popular. People started to like her for her natural performance. She has performed with almost all the top actors during that period. In the year 1951, she got married with K. Shridhar Rao. In the same year, she started a production company named Rajyam Pictures. Lots of films were produced under this banner and she got success with the new Production Company. She was present in most of the films, which she produced. Nearly a dozen films were produced by them, including Harichandra, Krishna Leelalu, Shakuntala and Rangeli Raja. Apart from the Telugu films, she has acted in one Tamil film named
