Kamala Kotnis

Kamala Kotnis is one of the most well known ever young actresses in the history of the Telugu film industry. She has worked in both the Telugu and as well as the Hindi film industry. She was mainly seen during the 40s and 50s during the pre and post independence era of India.

Not much is known about her date of birth or her exact lineage of the family. But it is known that she was born to an army official who was in the British Army and to a lady of Telugu nativity who was a fruit vendor. The young girl was adopted by a Zamindar during the pre-independence era, and was given the name ‘Kamalabai’.

She made her debut into the cinema industry in the Telugu movie ‘Jeevana Jyoti’ which was released in the year 1940. She was cast as Krishnaveni the heroine’s friend in the movie. While she was working in the movie, she had met and fallen in love with Panduranga Kotnis and married him in the year 1941.

Panduranga Kotnis was the brother of D. S. Kotnis one of the well-known cinematographers in the industry then.
