ÂDr Vempati Chinna Satyam was an Indian dancer. He was also known as the pioneer of the Kuchipudi dance form. He was born on 15 October 1929 and died on 29 July 2012. His native place is Kuchipudi, Andhra Pradesh. His mother was Varalakshamma, and his father was Vempati Chalamaiah. He learned this art form from Vedantam Lakshmi Narayana Sastry, a great master in Kuchipudi. He was successful in popularizing Kuchipudi.
He had received many awards and titles such as Padma Bhushan by Govt. of India, National Award from Central Sangeet Naatak Akademi, New Delhi. He received a Doctorate from Andhra University. He was awarded by many state governments of India, including the Kalaimamani award by the Government of Tamil Nadu in 1994. In 1963, He started the Kuchipudi Art Academy at Madras (Chennai). He died at the age of 83 on 29 July 2012(Chennai, Tamil Nadu).
