Vangipurapu Venkata Sai Laxman, who people fondly remember as V. V. S. Laxman, is an ex-Indian cricketer who currently works as the cricket commentator. His birthday fell on November 1, 1974, in Hyderabad. He was a batsman. His parents' names are Dr. Shantaram and Dr. Satyabhama. Both his parent are acclaimed physicians.

Laxman went to Little Flower High School and wanted to study medicine too. However, later he dropped out and decided to pursue cricket. His great grand uncle, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, served the country as a President.

He was a technically sound player who mostly excelled in the larger format of the game. He could bat against both, the spinners and the faster bowlers. He represented Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy but couldn't produce mind-blowing results. In 1994, he made his debut in the under-19 team of India. He performed brilliantly for the country against Australia and England both. However, he couldn't replicate his resounding success in the domestic circuit.

Within two years of his under-19 debut, he started to play for the international squad, and a scored a half-century in his debut match. He continued to represent the country for a long while and was particularly successful against tough opponents like Australia, England and much more. In his long and illustrious career, Laxman has made and broken several records.

The government has bestowed him with the Arjuna Award and the Padma Shri. He has also played for Deccan Chargers and Kochi Tuskers Kerala in the Indian Premier League. However, later in his career, his form dipped, and he willingly retired from all formats of cricket in 2012.
