Devarakonda Venkata Subbarao, popularly known as D.V. Subbarao, was a renowned Telugu stage actor. He was born in 1894 and passed away in 1960. D.V. Subbarao is recognized as one of the famous actors in the Telugu theater industry. After completing high school, he began working as a clerk for a period of time. However, his passion for acting led him to join the Bhuvana Ranjani Theater at the young age of 14. He actively participated in their plays and gained valuable experience. Subsequently, he became a member of the Indian Dramatic Company, which was managed by Nalluri Brahmanandam in 1910.
Under the leadership of Brahmanandam, the theater company became a disciplined and organized society. They worked together as a team, focusing on time management and striving for perfection. Pingali Nagendra Rao, a talented playwright, was appointed to write scripts for the theater company, resulting in the production of many outstanding plays. Throughout his career, D.V. Subbarao acted in a total of 34 plays, working for over 36 years.
Some notable plays in which he showcased his acting skills include Bobbili, Gayopakhyanam, Gulebakavali, Gopichand, Lavakusa, Chandrahasa, Rasaputra Vijasha,Krishnalila, Na Raju, Satya Harishchandra, Vindhya Rani, Chitra Naleem, Another World, and Chitranthi. He gained significant recognition for his portrayal of the character Harishchandra, which solidified his position in Telugu theater. In addition to his stage performances, he also ventured into the film industry and is known for his role in the movie Vindhyarani released in 1948.
