Born on 23rd December 1881, Balijepalli Lakshmikantham Kavi was an Indian playwright, poet, screenwriter, novelist, actor, and freedom fighter. He was born in small village called Itikampadu in Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh. After completing his education, he started working at the sub-registrar office as a gumasta. He also worked as a teacher in a Hindu college. He used to tour through different regions to perform Avadhanms. He established a printing press near Guntur in 1922 called Chandrika Printing Press. He entered the film industry with encouragement from his colleagues. Initially Balijepalli Lakshmikantham Kavi wrote dialogues and songs for films and also acted in a few Telugu films. Vara Vikrayam was his debut film in 1939.
