K A Thangavelu or Karaikal Arunachalam Thangavelu was an Indian film actor. He was also known as ‘Danaal Thangavelu.’ He was also a very popular comedian from the 1950s to 1970s. He was born on 15 January 1917 to Arunachalaam and Karumammal. He worked from 1936 to 1994. He married twice in his life, to Rajamani and M. Saroja. He has three children Valarmathi, Vijaya chamundeswar,i and Sumathi. He breathed his last on 28 September 1994.
He has a hard childhood and was often ill treated and abused by his stepmother and relatives. Since a very young age he had an interest in theatres and plays and films, and would often sneak in to watch them. Yedhartham Ponnuswamy Pillai trained him for acting at Rajambal Company. His debut was a minor, uncredited role in Sathi Leelavathi in 1936.
